Fotograf Contemporary – Continuum

Photography is not static. It moves between past and present, reality and construction, private and public space, documentation and fiction. The exhibition brings together several generations of artists represented by Fotograf Contemporary, presenting photography as a medium that continually evolves depending on who works with it, the means they employ, and the purposes they pursue.
This fluidity is reflected in the diverse artistic approaches presented in the exhibition. Libuše Jarcovjáková turns her characteristically direct gaze towards the world around her, while Marie Tomanová draws on her own experiences and the stories of her subjects to explore the lives of a younger generation of immigrants. Tereza Zelenková works with black-and-white imagery, melancholy, and a peculiar sense of timelessness. Pavel Baňka constructs and composes his images to reveal order, repetition, and a fascination with symmetry. Lenka Glisníková and the collective SHOTBY.us creates distinctive fictional worlds from real objects and their arrangements. Markéta Othová sensitively captures the understated and mundane aspects of everyday life. Václav Kopecký moves between analogue and digital processes, continually exploring how the photographic image can surprise us, while Hynek Alt & Iveta Schovancová uses contemporary technologies to test systems and question the very state of the medium. Miroslava Večeřová turns her attention to the lives of animals and plants, examining their forms, structures, and ways of being.
The photographic image changes over time, as do the environments in which it is created, and enters into new relationships. The exhibition takes place at a moment when Fotograf Zone is closing its festival chapter and seeking a new direction for its future. All works on display are available for purchase, with part of the proceeds supporting Fotograf Zone’s future activities.

Mirror on the Easel
The exhibition by František Petrák and Tomáš Absolon is an intergenerational dialogue on the challenges of two-dimensional representation. Both artists conceive of the painter as an intermedial translator moving between everyday poetics, didactics, and the history of painting.
