Performance: Obelix Nutrix

Come to Ania Novak's performance, Obelix Nutrix, which is part of this year's Fotograf Zone Festival!
Obelix Nutrix is a performance which takes the figure of the nurse to look closer at the intricacies of care, interdependence and power. Through language, a soundscape and strong visuality, the work ponders on the ethics of care, an ethic committed to universal provision for human needs, regardless of nationality, skin color or social status. Obelix Nutrix draws loose inspiration from Florence Nightingale and her foundational role in modern nursing using the historical figure and her legacy as an archetype.
In times of ongoing armed conflicts and genocide, growing compassion fatigue and the omnipresence of images of suffering, Nowak delves into deep exploration of the question of how care can be distinguished from paternalism, control or savior complex. Interweaving historical and futuristic elements, Obelix Nutrix also approaches the realm of Artificial Intelligence and digital health technologies and arrives at the ultra-contemporary question: How will we care for each other in the metaverse?
Commissioned and produced by Salzburger Kunstverein.
Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Republic of Poland.

PARADAJS PHOTO FEST 2026
The international festival of contemporary photography PARADAJS PHOTO FEST, which this year became a member of the International Photo Festival Association (IPFA), invites audiences to the opening of its third edition on 5 June 2026. Despite receiving critically low state funding compared to previous years, the organisers will bring 17 exhibitions to the historic town of Banská Štiavnica, featuring artists such as Roman Franc, Dežo Hoffmann, Štěpánka Stein, and Lena Jakubčáková. Visitors can look forward to unique site-specific installations and a rich accompanying programme. The festival opens with a launch weekend from 5–7 June and runs until 5 July 2026.
