Anna Mírková – Social Worlds of the River

Rivers are living entities: they are born, they change, and they disappear, though on timescales different from those we are accustomed to. Yet their metabolism also undergoes transformations within the span of human lives. What is the life story of the Vltava? How does it enter the lives of the people who live alongside it? How might we listen to it? And what political implications might arise from entering into conversation with a river?

This two-hour workshop invites participants to explore these questions collectively through drawing, conversation, and imagination on the banks of the Vltava.

BIO

Anna Mírková’s practice draws on social work, artivism, and environmental anthropology. She focuses on questions of the right to the city and more-than-human processes of landscape-making. Her research explores relationships between cats and humans in Prague cemeteries, as well as post-flood recovery in the Jeseníky region, where she traces how water moves through the local landscape and through the institutions seeking to control it.
