Vojtěch Ptáček – Heritage Varieties Today
A talk about heritage fruit varieties such as Panenské, Grahamovo and Šídlenka. You will learn about the role they can play in contemporary gardens and why preserving them for future generations matters. A tree is not only a source of fruit and timber, but also the bearer of a story shaped by uncertainty and determination. Let us find our own way to these old varieties and begin to value them as a living memory of our history.
Vojtěch Ptáček
I have been a gardener for as long as I can remember. It was my grandmother who first set me on this path. I studied horticulture at both secondary school and university, with a particular focus on fruit growing. Since 2018, I have been involved in preserving old varieties of fruit trees through a programme run by the Czech Union for Nature Conservation, while also raising awareness of the importance of conserving and propagating them.
