What is Fotograf Zone Festival?
It is an international festival of contemporary art taking place in various cultural institutions in Prague. Its 16th edition in 2026 is entitled Wild Kin and it focuses on various forms of interspecies coexistence and seeks ways not only to observe but also to experience humanity’s relationship with other living beings and the environment we share. The program includes exhibitions, performances, artist talks and much more.
Where is Fotograf Zone Festival taking place?
The main festival location is TYRŠ the human lab (Nosticova 2a, Prague 1 and Tyršův dům tram stop), where the festival starts on October 1. The main exhibition by Jochen Lempert is hosted by Fotograf Zone Gallery and two other exhibitions are shown in the public space of Holešovická tržnice. The winners of our open call are exhibited in the vestibule of metro Můstek.
When is the festival taking place?
The grand opening takes place on Thursday, October 1. Some exhibitions have openings later, please check the detailed program for this information. Apart from the exhibition in Fotograf Zone Gallery (until Nov 5), all festival events run until Sunday, October 11.
What are the opening hours during the festival?
TYRŠ the human lab and Fotograf Zone Gallery are open every day, including weekends, from 1 PM to 7 PM. The Botanical Garden is open from 10 AM to 7:30 PM. The exhibitions at Holešovice Market and Můstek metro station are in public spaces, so you can visit them anytime.
Who is the festival for?
Fotograf Zone Festival is open to the public, to anyone interested in the visual art, photography and current trends in the industry.
How much is the admission fee?
Entrance to all exhibitions is free of charge – come as you are!
Is the program kids friendly?
Yes, children are welcome at all exhibitions. Please note, however, that some works might contain complex or sensitive topics, so we recommend parental guidance.
Is the program English friendly?
Some of the events are, some are only for Czech speaking audiences. Please check the detailed program for this information.
Can I come with a dog?
Dogs on a leash are welcome at all festival venues. Please respect the space and be considerate of other visitors.
Is the festival focused only on photography?
No, the festival focuses on visual art in general. Photography plays a big role but there are also a lot of installations, performances, videos and so on included in the program.

Fotograf Zone as you know it is changing in 2027
In 2027, there will be no Fotograf Festival, and for the first time in 25 years, no print issue of Fotograf Magazine will be published. We are currently deciding on the future of Fotograf Zone Gallery. We do not yet know exactly what the organization will look like from next year onward, and we do not want to pretend otherwise.

Beyond Gallery Walls: Fotograf Zone Explores How We Live as Neighbors
The 16th edition of Fotograf Zone Festival has announced its full program. From October 1 to 11, the festival will bring exhibitions of contemporary photography and visual art to Prague alongside performances, DJ sets, author readings, workshops, lectures, audio walks, a group bike ride through the city, and even a communal apple harvest. Under this year’s theme, Wild Kin, the festival explores different forms of multispecies coexistence and looks for ways not only to observe but also to experience our relationship with other living beings and the environments we share.

Intimate and Raw – Afterglow Revisits the Work of Adam Holý
On Thursday, 3 September, Fotograf Zone will open Afterglow, an exhibition dedicated to the remarkable photographic practice of Adam Holý. Staged ten years after the artist’s death, the exhibition reflects on his lasting impact on Czech photography while repositioning his work within a contemporary context. Bringing together intimate portraits, spontaneous snapshots taken from a moving car, and lesser-known landscape montages, the exhibition offers a compelling encounter with a complex body of work whose images continue to surprise, unsettle, and fascinate.
