Off The Map
Sasha Chaika’s photographic series Off The Map questions the language and social structures that govern our behavior and perception of reality. She captures fragments of bodies, objects, and environments that appear at once familiar and alien, as though belonging to a parallel world without fixed rules. These images are not documents but visual metaphors that reveal mechanisms of power, stigmatization, and the illusion of freedom. In this sense, photography becomes a medium capable of disrupting norms and opening up spaces for relationships based on embodiment and affect rather than language. The works oscillate between attraction and unease, sexuality and melancholy, even a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Off The Map is an invitation to abandon established maps—both cultural and social—and to experience otherness beyond categories. Chaika suggests that true freedom may begin precisely where we let go of the need to name everything.
Co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Union, FUTURES is a platform to increase the capacity, mobility and visibility of it's selected artists and to bridge the gap between emerging and established artists.
