Helioddity

My work moves between sculpture, installation, video, and text, with a sustained interest in matter as an epistemological agent rather than a passive medium. I am drawn to substances that resist stable form—such as dust, gas, calcium, and tar—and to the question of what it means to think with matter rather than merely about it.

Many of my projects begin with research—scientific, archival, or linguistic. But research is never an end in itself; it is a way of getting close enough to a substance or phenomenon for its logic to begin shaping the work. The resulting pieces often occupy a space between poetic speculation and material investigation, testing the limits of what language and form can carry.

Across different projects, I return to questions of agency, contingency, and scale—how processes operating on cosmic or geological timescales intersect with the most ordinary and overlooked dimensions of daily life. Dust, helium, and stone are substances that are ancient, finite, and structurally invisible within the economies that consume or ignore them.

I frequently work in collaboration—with scientists or other artists—treating collaboration itself as a method for producing knowledge that no single discipline or perspective could reach alone.

Anetta Mona Chișa

Anetta Mona Chișa is an artist working across installation, sculpture, video, performance, and text, both individually and through long-term collaborations. Her practice grows out of a sustained engagement with materials, which she approaches as agents with their own behaviors, durations, and forms of resistance. Her work has been presented at the Romanian Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale, Kunsthalle Bratislava, n.b.k. Berlin, GAK Bremen, Cukrarna Ljubljana, mumok Vienna, Rudolfinum Gallery Prague, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, MOCA Miami, and The Power Plant Toronto, among others.

The 16th edition of Fotograf Zone Festival has announced its full program. From October 1 to 11, the festival will bring exhibitions of contemporary photography and visual art to Prague alongside performances, DJ sets, author readings, workshops, lectures, audio walks, a group bike ride through the city, and even a communal apple harvest. Under this year’s theme, Wild Kin, the festival explores different forms of multispecies coexistence and looks for ways not only to observe but also to experience our relationship with other living beings and the environments we share.

Botanical gardens today play a critical role in protecting plant species on the brink of extinction. Many of these plants are no longer able to reproduce naturally under the increasingly difficult conditions of contemporary landscapes; their natural habitats are steadily disappearing, and their survival has become directly dependent on human intervention. A comprehensive conservation program run by the Union of Botanical Gardens of the Czech Republic and focused on protecting native plant genetic resources served as the thematic framework for a semester project by students of the Applied Photography Studio at FUD UJEP.
