Portrait with Snails, 2023
Screen with Ducks, 2023
Curtain, 2023
In her work, Polish artist Anna Orłowska explores the materiality of images and their ability to tell stories through seemingly ordinary objects. In the exhibition Metamorphosis, she presents three works that combine photography with objects and textiles.
The photograph Portrait with Snails shows the delicate balance between the body and nature. The portrait of a boy with live creatures crawling on his face shifts the medium of photography from mere representation to a haptic and almost performative record.
The object Screen with Ducks combines a classic photographic print with a metal structure and part of a child's bed. It thus works with photography as a spatial object and refers to personal and cultural layers of memory.
The textile installation Curtain uses iron oxide to print on fabric. The curtain, which comes from the family archive and is a common element of home interiors, becomes a photographic medium. It combines an ornamental pattern, material traces, and intimate memories. With this gesture, Orłowska moves photography beyond the traditional frame of the picture and emphasizes its ability to permeate everyday objects that preserve personal and collective memory.
Photography becomes part of the things that surround us and raises the question of how photography intertwines with material reality and everyday life.
Co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Union, FUTURES is a platform to increase the capacity, mobility and visibility of it's selected artists and to bridge the gap between emerging and established artists.
