For me, photography is above all a way of looking at the world around us. Through this lens, I have put together the following selection of five articles. I tried to reflect what interests me and, to some extent, what is currently happening in the world and worth thinking about. These are not exactly light topics, but they are all around us and should not be overlooked. I also included two of my favorite sections: shorter formats that I enjoy reading because, even in their condensed form, they capture a compelling phenomenon or perspective.
Amak Mahmoodian – Exile and Return (Peter Watkins)

Because Iran. Because what is happening there is devastating, and also because Amak is an extraordinary person who confronts her own and her family’s fate with courage, sensitivity, and creative strength. She is also nominated this year for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, and on May 14, 2026, at The Photographers’ Gallery in London, we will find out whether she becomes its winner.
Mikhail Palinchak – Phantom Pain (Katerina Radchenko)

Because Ukraine. Mikhail is an outstanding photographer and artist. In this series, he takes a new and particularly challenging direction by asking: how can pain be visualized? Is it even possible? When you look up at the sky, what comes to mind? And what associations does the sky evoke for people in war zones? The sky can also become a channel for falling objects. Anyone who has ever feared that something might fall will not forget that feeling.
Andrej Pešta – Baro Frajeris (Emília Rigová)

Having the opportunity to present a Roma artist is very close to my heart, thanks to Emília Rigová and the Museum of Romani Culture, which holds many treasures and, importantly, offers the majority society a perspective from within a minority. And it is not always a comfortable one. Whether you believe it or not, go there and engage. Let’s pay more attention to how minorities live – it is both a window into their world and a rusty mirror reflecting our own (I include myself in the majority, and I am not always proud of it). Andrej Pešta’s work is a beautiful invitation into his life and world, richly interwoven.
Photo Books Section

One of my favorite sections. We write about both theoretical publications and artist books, which are not often critically reflected upon.. Through these short reviews, we try to reflect the vibrant and incredibly diverse scene of photobook publishing. Long live photobooks and may many more be published!
Survey: Yes to Photography

I quite enjoy surveys. They offer quick reading and allow me to test and shape my own thoughts through the condensed ideas of interesting figures. I often find this kind of mental exercise engaging, which is why I want to highlight this survey. It may not be new, but it still feels relevant. Let’s say it out loud, here together, with conviction: Yes to photography.
