The Logic of the Collection is a compilation of texts by philosopher and theorist of art and media Boris Groys that relate to the phenomenon of museums. It is divided into two parts - the first, more comprehensive, consists of sixteen essays published in the second half of the 1990s. The second comprises six texts written between 2016 and 2021. The book broaches two intertwining issues: the role of collecting institutions in the present day and, concurrently, the development of digital memory stored online. What is the logic of contemporary collections, how are they put together, and on what principle of similarity and difference of artefacts (material and digital) are they based? Is it possible to preserve not only the works themselves but also the contexts within which they were created? And if museums are no longer the only relevant indicator of the "value" of an artwork, how is the digital world replacing said value?
