The installation Bruises on my Knees (2023) is a work involving hand embroidery, objects, text, and photography. The work is about the experiences of a young queer man searching for his own place in society, coming face to face with his own trauma, mental health, and familial and intimate relationships, and through this reflection stimulating a space for self-healing and rediscovering one's own self-worth. The central element of the installation are three bespoke display cases in which hand-embroidered, dyed and otherwise processed pieces of recycled leather are displayed together alongside salvaged wooden objects. The installation also includes a large-scale photographic image depicting an old tree trunk resembling a human form. Several small photographic self-portraits of the artist, capturing private performances with the displayed objects, appear in the installation alongside short poetic text messages.
