Saša Tatić’s ongoing installation Photo Backdrops (2022–) consists of wall paintings designed to be entered into and used as photographic settings. Each painted inscription leaves an empty space, inviting visitors to physically enter the work and complete its message. The texts, which range from quotes and common sayings to the artist’s own observations, address the history of the diaspora, turning the backdrop into both an image surface and a site of embodied participation.

Lost in Translation, 2023–2025

In her series of prints Lost in Translation (2023–2025), Tatić explores language, migration, and intimacy. The works collect idioms and colloquialisms in their original languages that have led to misunderstandings across generations and geographies. The series reflects on long-distance relationships and the subtle ways in which care, insecurity, judgment, and assumption circulate through everyday speech.

Saša Tatić

makes visible the social roles she inhabits – as a daughter, heiress, and member of the diaspora – in order to explore concepts of home, belonging, and identity. Using text as a tool to convey meaning within her multimedia practice, Tatić opens up diverse pathways for engaging with identity. She is one of the co-founders of the artistic association Fully Funded Residencies e.V., advocating for equality and inclusion and a member of the feminist and left-oriented organisation CRVENA in Sarajevo. She lives and works in Berlin and visits Bosnia whenever she can.
