Shared Memory as a Key to Coexistence in Times of Tension. Fotograf Zone Opens Two New Exhibitions

14. 4. 2026

Two exhibitions, two distinct yet resonant approaches to urgent contemporary themes. On April 21, Fotograf Zone will open two new projects that explore fragility, memory, and the possibilities of coexistence in today’s world. On the ground floor, the group exhibition Reveries For Fragile Beasts will bring together the work of the Apian project and Sarah Dubná, while the Video Room will present Golemet by the artistic duo Tamara Moyzes and Shlomi Yaffe.

Reveries For Fragile Beasts unfolds from the Swiss project Apian, which examines the relationship between humans and bees through the fictional framework of The Ministry of Bees. This imagined “institution” acts as a mediator between species, collecting and reactivating the shared memory of their coexistence while searching for new ways to articulate it in the context of the climate crisis.

The exhibition is unique primarily due to the collaboration between the artists. Sarah Dubná directly responds to the photographic and research material developed within Apian and creates an entirely new site-specific project for Fotograf Zone. Through the technique of scraping, she reveals the underlying layers of the gallery walls, forming a powerful artistic gesture that becomes a raw narrative of the continuous—and often painful—uncovering of memory,” says curator Světlana Malina.

In contrast, yet also in dialogue with this approach, Golemet focuses on memory as an embodied experience. The project by Tamara Moyzes and Shlomi Yaffe is a collective articulation of Jewish women responding to the resurgence of historically conditioned fear following the events of October 7, 2023, and the rise of antisemitism across Europe and beyond. In this context, inherited trauma is understood as a lived reality—activated in moments of threat and social tension. Drawing on research in epigenetics and trauma studies, memory emerges here as something carried by the body, shaping our responses and relationships.

At the center of the project stands Golemet, a female reinterpretation of the Prague Golem, rooted in its original meaning as an unfinished, human-like form. This notion of the Golem as a human double gains renewed relevance today in the context of artificial intelligence; Golemet is therefore created using AI as an inanimate vessel carrying real testimonies. Human emotions and transgenerational trauma are inscribed into this technological body, functioning as a contemporary symbol of protection, resilience, and collective intelligence. Moving between Jewish mysticism, epigenetic research, and contemporary imaging technologies, the project raises questions about empathy, visibility, and care within an environment shaped by social media. The exhibition is realized in collaboration with the Bubny Center for Memory and Dialogue, which also contributes to the accompanying program, including a moderated discussion on intergenerational trauma with psychotherapists Věra Roubalová and Dana Pokorná.

Both exhibitions are united by an interest in how we relate to others—whether across species or between people—and the role that fragility, memory, and shared experience play in these relationships. While Reveries For Fragile Beasts seeks new forms of coexistence through sensitivity and imagination, Golemet creates space for listening and empathy within the tensions of the present moment.

Both exhibitions will open at Fotograf Zone on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 pm and will be on view until June 11.
