The photographic series The Mad Countess examines how decadence may be articulated today and whether it has not vanished in an era marked by emotional numbness. The project reflects on stereotypes surrounding women, the male gaze, and everyday patriarchal norms, as the artist embodies a “wild” woman existing outside social expectations – excessive, unsettling, and unclassifiable. This transgressive figure disrupts established order and exposes the ways in which women are constrained by predetermined roles. The transgression of boundaries, extending to the brink of madness, opens a space of authenticity in which what is suppressed and rejected can become a source of strength.
