Darja Lukhanenko – How to make rockets disappear?

5. 12. 2023

Online publications seem like a video game in which the reader chooses between two worlds to navigate. If we accept the fact that we all used to be stars, and if we can imagine that our bodies resemble those of bombs, we may even win the war. The online publication of fresh graduate Darja Lukhanenko is also the final project of her studies at the IV. Studio of Fine Arts at Prague’s UMPRUM. The author works with the perspective of the relationship between humankind and space exploration, demonstrating the old colonialist structures. The topic of her long-term research thus touches on the Cold War era and conquests of space and planetary expansion, which resides in utopian thought to this day, although only in the minds of the richest. In funny, light and metaphoric language, the author works with texts bordering on technical imagination and walks us through simple and visually clean instructions before a journey into the unknown. The question is whether we really need to aim for the cosmos when we are already making a mess at home, on Earth.
