Nizan Shaked. Museums and Wealth: The Politics of Contemporary Art Collections. London: Bloomsbury Academic, 2022. ISBN 9781350045767
Professor Nizan Shaked's Museums and Wealth is an extraordinary contribution to the struggle for an egalitarian art world. In four comprehensive chapters, she uses case studies to outline why the American non-profit system is not fit to manage art collections and comes with a proposal for diversity reform and redistributive restructuring. The book also explores how select private collections became public and how the rise of the "American Museum" has re-privatized them. We can only hope that the publication will influence the emergence of other studies critically analyzing the politics of art-collecting institutions, this time on our European continent.
